Those Fickle 18-24's

Maybe not according to a new study by MTV Networks International:

  • 18-24s are much more concerned with a brand’s history and 51% say that, “knowing a brand has been good for a long time”, makes it desirable.
The study was conducted in the US, UK, Japan, Germany and India.

The Music is Back at MTV

What began as Music Television, over the years, has morphed into something very different--virtually no music. Now, on-line, the music [videos] is back. MTV has launched MTV Music.

The database is very large--more than 22,000 videos so far. From the current to the classic. Including this vintage nugget:

In addition to all the videos, MTV Music is set up for social networking and allows for those who register (free) to post their own user created videos and author their own blog. The site also features staff picks, viewer comments, and ratings. Audio and video quality seems high as well. What's missing right now is playlist creation and there's no way to buy or download the music and videos--but you can share a link and also embed a link as I did here.

Sites like this are tough competition for radio station websites. They have the natural resources, so to speak. What natural resources do you have to help grow your traffic?

Generation Happy

If GenXrs were labeled slackers and the generation of teen angst we might have to start calling Millennials "Generation Happy." That appears to be the finding from a brand new study commissioned by MTV called Happiness.

There is a lot of interesting information; useful in my never ending quest to enrich my knowledge of the most challenging group ever to entice into the radio listening fold. Hopefully you will find it useful too. Understanding "happy" could help.

There are 13 attributes that define what happiness is and what it means to them. (click on image for larger view)You can read the full study here. [pdf reader needed-get it here]
